Plymouth Speedway - Outlaw Late Model Rules
Bring Weight, our interpretation of a rule may be different than yours
 
Body and Frame
Body must be neat and stock appearing, steel, fiberglass or aluminum.
After market nose piece to be mounted in conventional manor. Nose piece front over hang to be a maximum of 45” from center of hub to tip of nose, including lip/splitter on the front of nose piece. Maximum width of lip is 4”. Nose piece flare must be flush with top of fender. Nose piece will have no
more of 1” of belly built in to face of nose. Any nose piece that is flattened or smooth, add 50 lbs at officials discretion. Both front corners of nose piece/lip must have a radius to prevent sharp edges.
Rear over hang measured from center of rear axle, 46” maximum to furthest point back, excluding bumper. Quarter panel to be perpendicular to the ground. Quarter panel minimum 8” from ground to bottom of panel.
Minimum wheel base 102”
NO minimum ground clearance car must meet all body measurements on 3” blocks. Car cannot scrape the race track.
Roof height minimum of 45”, measured 10” back from windshield, no more than 2” drop permitted front to back in center of roof. Maximum drop side is 2-1/2”. Maximum 102” measurement from front of roof to base of rear spoiler.
Window openings minimum of 12” x 22”. Driver must be able to get out of car on both sides with helmet on. No add-on pieces in window area.
Body maximum of 82” wide at front, back to center of rear tire. Body width to decrease gradually to maximum of 78” at the rear panel/spoiler (was 72” we are not requiring this it is an option). Body panels are to appear symmetrical (the same) from side to side (excluding roof), side of body must run in
a vertical fashion. No wheel flares, no swoop in body panels. No right side ledges over 10”, no left side ledges over 5”.
Rear window any continuous radius of elliptical shape resembling stock design, but may not come to a point. No V shapes or concave windows. Must have rear window brace, placed in center of window.
Maximum height of rear deck from ground 36”.
Rear spoiler maximum of 8” high x 78” wide (material), made of clear material and be flat bracing may be from front or rear. For front bracing, maximum of 3 supports, maximum of ¾” round tubing only rear bracing must be inset from sides of quarter panel. A minimum of 3” on both sides max 1” rear.
Facing lips only maximum 42” from ground to top of spoiler. 9” x 72” rear spoiler will be allowed on 72” wide rear quarter.
Maximum height of rear bumper 12”
Rear deck lid maximum of 28”, from base of rear window to base of rear spoiler. Deck lid must be removable or have access panel. Rear deck lid drop or belly may have maximum of 1” drop, checked from side to side check from rear quarter panels.
Back panels optional
Rub rails maximum of 1” x 1” no sharp edges, must have closed ends. Bolts must be countersunk. No aluminum or composite bumpers. Steel only. No aluminum door bar assemblies or posts outside of roll cage or rub rails.
No push bars are allowed to protrude through nose piece.
Bar measurement from bottom of 3” frame rail to top of rear roll bar is minimum 39” with ¼” tolerance. The measurement of front halo bar to be identical 39-1/2” inches. 1/4” tolerance any material added to meet the measurement must meet the minimum roll cage specifications.
Full front windshield and full rear window required, and must be completely riveted and securely fastened, must be stock appearing.
Roof minimum 38” long by 45” wide.
Fuel cell must be located to the rear of rear axle and between the inside edges of the rear tires. Cell must be a minimum of 8” off the ground at its lowest point. Container must be made of metal.
No carbon fiber body components permitted, except roof. No titanium or carbon fiber rotors or drive shafts.
Maximum track width will be checked outside to outside at bottom of tire 82” maximum.
Right rear quarter panel and rear spoiler cannot exceed past right rear tire sidewall.
 
Chassis
Stock or tubular front sub frames allowed.
Coil over shocks and springs may be used.
No minimum frame height nose may race at minimum height must be raised if car scrapes track. All body measurements will be checked on 3” blocks.
Canister shocks are not allowed. E. maximum 4 shocks and 4 springs.
Besides brakes, no adjustments of any kind in cockpit area where driver can access
Minimum weight of car with driver is 2700 lbs.
Aluminum heads add 50 lbs.
 
Engine
Engine may be interchangeable number one spark plug must be within 4” of ball joint
Carburetor maximum of one four-barrel with 2 return springs.
Cast iron blocks (aluminum heads may be used). Must have functional starters. May run cast iron or aluminum intake manifolds. Air cleaners are mandatory and must be under hood. (No holes through hood).
Dry sumps or any external oil pump system may be used with a minimum of 10” crankshaft height. No minimum crankshaft height on wet sump engines.
Headers are allowed exhaust must go back past doors.
If using a stock clutch, an iron bell housing or steel scatter shield must be used.
No V-6 engines.
$250 claim on ignition boxes. Ignition boxes may be impounded after race for 1 week to be tested. MSD box must be mounted out of reach of driver sitting in car.
 
Drive Line
Where aftermarket clutches are applicable, use of a conventional clutch is required. For definition purposes, a conventional clutch is the only clutch allowed and the application and construction are defined in the following manner:

Solid magnetic steel clutches and pressure plates only. Clutches must be positive engagement design. Slider or slipper clutch designs are not permitted. No carbon fiber clutches. Clutches found not to meet this definition will be deemed illegal.

No four-wheel or all wheel drive, or automatic transmissions. Have reverse gear.
Floater wide five or quick change rear ends are allowed.
Must have four wheel operating brakes, iron rotors only.
Drive shaft must be painted white, and have safety hoop.
 
Fuel System
Fuel cell is mandatory, must have approved guard, and must have 8” ground clearance.
Steel lines or braided hose must be used as fuel line from fuel source to fuel pump rubber hose may be used at fuel source and fuel pump connections. No fuel line in cockpit area.
No alcohol or nitrous oxide.
Fuel cell must be mounted between rear tires and between frame rails.
 
Tires and Wheels
Maximum 10” wide steel wheels only. No aluminum, carbon fiber or plastic wheels.
Hoosier 970 tires.
 
Miscellaneous
No electric or hydraulic tractional devices allowed.
Any infractions from these rules are subject to a weight penalty or will not race until car meets rules.
Ballast weight must be painted white and have car number on it.
 
Additional Rules
A full fire retardant driving suit, racing gloves and Snell 95 or newer helmet is required.
A suitable form of neck restraint is recommended (a neck collar at minimum).
An aluminum racing seat with belts no more than 3 years old are recommended.
Window nets are mandatory.
Additional weight must be securely bolted to car and painted white with car # displayed.
All safety issues are subject to approval by Plymouth Speedway Staff.
HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT SYSTEM HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
When transponders are supplied by the track and used for scoring, teams will be charged $300 each if not returned to appropriate official.
Teams are responsible for proper mounting of transponder, per official’s direction at track.
Officials have the right to reject any car from competing. The rules are subject to change at official’s discretion and weight penalties may be added for infractions. Official’s may and will alter rules at certain events to allow participation by local cars where they gain no unpenalized advantage.
Additional Race and Procedural Rules will be distributed at a later date. Breakout rule will be established prior to the beginning of the 2012 season.
Point standings will be maintained and a 2012 Champion will be declared. The top 10 will receive point fund earnings, awards, and be honored at the 2012 Awards Banquet.

Must compete in 85% of the events

 
Inspections, Mechanical Protest
Officials may require an inspection of any vehicle at any time. Vehicles placing in the first five positions must present themselves at the inspection station immediately after the conclusion of the feature race for such inspection and must not work on the car in any fashion until told to do so by a technical official.
A competitor must take whatever steps are required, including a complete tear down of the car, as requested by series officials to facilitate inspection of the car.
Failure to present a car for inspection when requested to do so, or refusal to take steps requested by series officials, will be considered an admission of guilt and will be grounds for disqualification.
Protests regarding alleged mechanical infractions must be made prior to the feature race being called to the track for the official lineup. The written protest must specify, in detail, a single, specific part or rule that is in violation, and be given to the chief technical inspector or race director, along with a fee of $300 cash per violation. Mechanical inspection with respect to such protest will be made following the feature race. $100 of the fee will be retained by the speedway for administrative costs with the remaining $200 going to the winner of the protest.

A protest may only be filed by a competitor in the same feature race.
