The mini stocks ran an eight lap heat race. The race was won by Zachary Newgent of South Bend.

In the final two heat races were the front wheel drives. The races were ten laps in distance with Jess Drook and Justin Brown both winning their first races in 2010 at the Plymouth Speedway.

The night was continued after a short intermission with the feature racing action. The front wheel drives under the CRA banner began the feature line up with a twenty-five lap affair. The race was dominated by Tom Hellinga. Tim Dilg finished in the second position with Tom Taylor finishing in the final podium position.

The mini stocks ran a twenty-five lap event where the current point’s leader extended his lead over the class with another feature victory. Finishing second was Rich Hensley and Zachary Newgent finished third.

The street stocks ran a twenty lap feature event to lead up to the Sportsmen Challenge feature. The racing was fast up front with the leader Dave Long beginning a mid-season feature streak. He racked up another feature win followed in second by Cory Lindsey and current point leader Stephanie Scott finished in third.

The seventy-five lap M-40/Plymouth Speedways’ Sportsman Challenge feature topped off the night’s racing action. The race was fast with a lot of movement throughout the field, but when the checkered fell it was over the top of Ron Maynard Junior’s roof. This gave Maynard another big victory in the 2010 race season. He was followed in second by Mitch Dewitt and Robbie Ferrier finished in third. Rounding out the top five were Tim Koscher and Tim Craig respectively.

This Saturday at the Plymouth Speedway the Mini Stocks headline the nights racing with the Mini Stock 50. The outlaw late models, sportsman, and street stocks will make the tow as well with the racing action beginning at seven o’clock.

Hoffman Takes CRA Summer Championship at Plymouth Speedway

By Andrew D. Hayn

On Sunday three of CRA’s divisions pulled pit side for the Summer Championship. The classes included the Super Series Late Models, Street Stocks, and the Front Wheel Drive Compacts.

Thirty cars rolled out for qualifying in the Super Series. Johnny VanDoorn set the pace for the late models with a fast lap around the 3/8 mile in 13.041 seconds. In the street stocks it was Nick Moore setting the fastest lap with a time of 15.244. The front wheel drives watched as Tom Hellinga of Plymouth set the pace for the field with a time of 16.499.

The front wheel drives ran two eight lap heats after opening ceremonies. Grabbing the first checkered flag of the night was Tom Hellinga while Steve Derouin crossed the line first in the second heat event.

With the heats completed it was time to go racing in the feature events. The first feature out was the CRA street stocks. The race featured twenty-five cars for fifty laps. After the start there were only three cautions with a very fast Dave Long out in front from green to checker. The racing was fierce throughout the pack to settle second through fifth. Brian Hopkins finished in the second position and Rich Boyer rounded out the podium in third. Rounding out the top five respectively were Rick Erwin and Steve Christman.

The front wheel drives were the next feature with twenty-five laps the distance of the event. Tim Dilg got out in front early on until Tom Hellinga reached him in the third lap to take over the top spot in the caution free race. Hellinga held on to make the weekend sweep. Tom Taylor finished second and Dilg finished in third. Jess Drook and Justin Brown finished fourth and fifth.

The CRA Super Series came out for the Summer Championship 200 in race that consisted of hard driving throughout the field and a break at the half way point. Scott Hantz led early in front of David Stremme and Tyler Roahrig. A spin involving Stremme and Hantz forced the pair to the tail giving the lead to Roahrig until Eddie Hoffman made a pass on Roahrig at lap seventy-five. Hoffman elected not to take on any tires at the break and remained out front for the remainder of the event. When the checkered flag waved over the field Aaron Pierce finished behind Hoffman in second, J.R. Roahrig finished third, fourth went to Brian Ross, and Terry Fisher Junior rounded out the top five.

This Saturday the Plymouth Speedway will host the Mini Stock 50 along with the Outlaw Late Models, Sportsmen, and Street Stocks.
